Things have not been going too well since my last entry.  Anthony is still in the hospital.  His fever came down, and blood cultures were all negative, but his throat/mouth sores were pretty severe.  His throat sores seemed to get a little better on Friday (6/27), but he started to develop sores on his tongue.  After increasing his Morphine dose on Friday, he started to get itchy.  They then gave him Benadryl to stop the itching, but the Benadryl did not agree with him.  Maria noticed that he had been sleeping for a long time and tried to wake him, but couldn't.  The nurse came in, checked inside his lip, and it was starting to turn blue.  She ran out of the room, got the nurse practitioner, and a bunch of other nurses.  They all started trying to wake him, they got out the Oxygen, and they got a drug ready that would remove all of the pain killers in his body.  After a while, he started coming around, so they didn't have to inject him.  He couldn't keep his eyes open for a while.  He would start to open them, but they would roll back and he would be out again.  It was pretty scary.  He was OK after that, though.

By Sunday night, his tongue sores were so bad that he kept waking up every 2 hours or so during the night with pain.  After I thought it couldn't get worse, Monday night he was in so much pain that he couldn't sleep at all.  He would doze off and 5 minutes later would wake up screaming.  I would characterize the pain as excruciating.  Sine then, they've kept raising the pain killer (not Morphine, Fentanyl) dosage.  He seemed a little better tonight, but was still in pain sometimes.  He actually began talking a little when I went to see him tonight.

It is just incredibly tough to watch your child in so much pain and know there is nothing you can do about it.  Let's hope he is better soon and can come home before his next treatment starts onTuesday.
